Roy Briggs talks to trainer John O'Shea about Nordic Prince, who is still enjoying his racing at the age of 14Tell us about him Never been sound for a full day since he arrived but has a tremendous heart. Of the 40 horses in the yard, he's the one I can put hand on heart and know he'll win every year.
What's he like at home? Pulls out every morning a bit pottery but soon warms up. He's had plenty of problems but his main asset is he just enjoys racing so much.
Likes Being turned out every day; carrots; mints.
Dislikes None. What would you say to people who ask: why is hestill racing? I believe I'm doing the right thing for him. He goes up the gallops every day with enthusiasm like he's never been up there before. He just loves it.
When is he likely to retire? First sign he's no longer enjoying the game, that will be it.
What will he do then? As far as the owners and I are concerned he'll have a home for life - he owes nobody a penny. He won't just be turned out.
He'd like to be doing something, probably a bit of hunting just to keep him happy.
