GOLDEN NEEDLES KNITTING & GLOVE FORMS NEW COMPANY TO EXPAND RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT OF ITS CUT- AND PUNCTURE-RESISTANT MEDICAL GLOVES

WILKESBORO, N.C., May 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Harold Plemmons, president of Golden Needles Knitting & Glove Co., Inc., announced today the formation of a new company, Medical Glove Devices, Inc., to be headed by Roger Sutton. Speaking from Golden Needles' headquarters in Wilkesboro, N.C., Plemmons said that the new company will operate independently, at another Wilkesboro location, and will focus on the expansion of research and development activities aimed at extending the company's existing line of five cut- and puncture-resistant knitted gloves for medical personnel. The gloves, three of which are patented, provide a high level of protection from the nicks and cuts that can occur during operating procedures thereby minimizing the possibility of the transmission of AIDS and other infectious diseases. High profile medical distribution companies currently are providing the sales initiative across the United States and in export markets.
The product line currently includes gloves made of high-performance fibers like DuPont's Kevlar(R) aramid and Allied-Signal's Spectra(R) ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene. Two products -- a lint-free nylon glove and an anti-static glove made of Kevlar -- are being used both in medical applications and in clean room assembly operations. Named to head the new venture, Roger Sutton has been employed by Golden Needles for 10 years. Manager of the company's corporate industrial protective programs with gloves made of DuPont's Kevlar aramid, he has been involved with Golden Needles' medical program since the company entered the medical arena in 1990 with the introduction of BioSurg, a flexible, seamless-knitted glove made entirely of stainless steel filaments. "The new company," said Sutton, "will be better able to satisfy the particular requirements of medical end-users by establishing and maintaining medical-specific handling and production procedures."
