GOALIE KEV SAVES HIS MERC FROM JOYRIDER; He nabs thief after car chase.

PREMIERSHIP goalkeeper Kevin Pressman hunted down a thief in a high-speed chase after his Mercedes car was stolen.

The Sheffield Wednesday star made a citizen's arrest after the 15-mile chase and a foot race across fields.

The 31-year-old keeper was woken at 6.15am yesterday by the sound of his pounds 52,000 luxury black motor being driven from the driveway of his home. He jumped in his wife's Lexus and called the police on his mobile phone. Minutes later he spotted the dark car racing past him in the opposite direction.

He spun the Lexus round and gave chase until he lost sight of the thief. But Kevin continued his search and later spotted the metallic blue Mercedes S320 parked in the middle of the road.

Kevin thought the crook had fled. But he was still inside trying to steal the CD player and sped off as the goalie approached.

The chase was on again and a police car overtook Kevin as the thief hit 90mph.

The father of three young children was about to leave the chase to the professionals when he saw his Mercedes had careered into a ditch after a crash with another car.

As he checked the other driver wasn't badly injured the thief ran off across fields. But the superfit sports star soon cornered him.

He said: "I must have followed him for about a mile and a half.

"I caught up with him and then it was end of story. I held onto him until the police arrived."

Kevin, whose wife Joanne was anxiously waiting at their pounds 150,000 home in Chesterfield, Derbyshire, added: "It was a spur of the moment thing. I didn't even think twice.

"I knew Joanne would be worried about me but I would be more bothered if she wasn't!"

A Derbyshire police spokesman said: "Kevin is to be highly commended for his actions. He kept us fully informed of what was happening.

"He cornered the man himself but wisely waited for police to arrive before the suspect was tackled.

"This is obviously a case of the goalkeeper who wouldn't let anything past him."
