GO-VIDEO AND SAMSUNG ENTER AGREEMENTFOR 8MM/VHS DUAL-DECK VCR PRODUCTION

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., Sept. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Go-Video Inc. (AMEX: VCR), holder of several U.S. patents for America's only Dual- Deck(TM) VCR, entered into an agreement with Samsung Electronics for production of America's first and only 8mm/VHS Dual-Deck VCR to be delivered in 1994. This patented VCR will give consumers the ability to easily make high-quality copies of their 8mm tapes to VHS format. Expected to retail from $999 to $1,299, it will be the first and only consumer editing VCR of its kind in America.
To date, Samsung has manufactured and Go-Video has sold over 100,000 VHS/VHS Dual-Deck VCRs in America. Go-Video holds several patents covering Dual-Deck VCR technology which has experienced an explosive consumer demand for its unique features. Since the Dual-Deck VCR was introduced in 1990, sales have grown from $239,000 to $12 million in fiscal `91 to $16 million in fiscal `92 to $30.9 million last fiscal year, 1993.
"VCRs are selling in the U.S. at the rate of 33,000 per day," said R. Terren Dunlap, chief executive officer. "We believe that the VCR industry will follow the same trend as audio cassette recorders did during the `80s. Early in the decade, dual dubbing audio decks were a luxury, and by the end of the decade they became the industry standard. Our retailers are convinced that the VHS/VHS Dual-Deck VCR sales trend will continue with accelerated growth and that Dual-Deck VCRs are a new product category in the consumer electronics industry. With the addition of the 8mm/VHS Dual-Deck VCR, we will have nine models for consumers to choose from ranging in retail price from $599 to $1,299. Now 8mm camcorder owners can edit or make copies of their 8mm camcorder home movies for relatives or friends who only have a VHS VCR."
Samsung is Korea's largest manufacturer ($48 billion) and Samsung Electronics currently manufactures 10 percent of the VCRs worldwide.
