GO: THEATRE: STAGE WHISPERS.
ACTORS are planning a 140-mile thespian trek next month from the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford to the Globe Theatre in London. The sponsored walk on September 20, aims to raise funds for refurbishment work at London drama school Lamda.
KING of Mirth Ken Dodd (below) will be celebrating 50 years in showbusiness with a series of shows at Birmingham Hippodrome from November 10. He laid the foundation stone marking the start of the pounds 30 million redevelopment of the theatre and still holds the venue's record for the biggest selling panto, Humpty Dumpty. BOOKING is now open for Warwick-based Playbox Theatre's 18th birthday season. Highlights at the Dream Factory in Shelley Avenue include The Fairy Queen by Henry Purcell, which opens on September 22, Krindlekrax, Hans Andersen's fairy story The Emperor and the Nightingale, The Revenger's Tragedy, The 101 Dalmatians and The Nativity. SATURDAY matinees are a feature of the Loft Theatre's new season in Leamington. Artistic director James Claridge says: "We want to provide greater access to our shows and to enable senior citizens to see performances at a time more convenient to them. It also enables parents to introduce younger children to the theatre when the show is appropriate."
