GMIS AND AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL HEALTHCARE INK SOFTWARE
 AGREEMENT; INCREASED DISTRIBUTION, PROFITS PREDICTED
MALVERN, Pa., July 20 /PRNewswire/ -- GMIS Inc. (NASDAQ: GMIS), a leading marketer of cost containment solutions for the insurance industry, announced today a joint venture with American International Healthcare (AIH) to market GMIS' innovative software product, ClaimCheck, in conjunction with AMISYS(TM) AIH's multi-option software system designed for managed care organizations.
"Under this agreement, GMIS can significantly increase its distribution channels. AIH markets to the full range of managed care organizations which include HMOs, Third Party Administrators (TPAs) as well as traditional indemnity plans," said Thomas Owens, president and chief executive officer of GMIS.
Owens added, "Our software will be seamlessly integrated into AIH's managed care system, streamlining claim handling and payment. The marketplace demands quick and affordable claims processing according to generally accepted clinical criteria, and GMIS provides that leadership."
ClaimCheck, the GMIS clinical auditing package, is designed to automatically identify and correct billing errors that can inflate physician payments. It is capable of detecting common "code gaming" techniques such as billing separately for each step in a surgical procedure or unbundling, as well as listing incidental procedures performed during an operation and identifying payments for visits already covered under the original procedure.
Kevin Brown, president of AIH, observed, "Integrating GMIS' ClaimCheck into our existing system will give customers increased flexibility and cost effectiveness in the processing and management of claims. ClaimCheck is an important and potent addition to AMISYS. We anticipate substantial savings for our customers."
GMIS, founded in 1984, has a current customer list that includes 16 of the top 25 commercial insurers, eight of the 12 largest HMOs and 35 of the 73 Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans across the country. The company has recently introduced a provider profiling product, Provider Insight(TM) and a medical appropriateness system, MAPS(TM), that addresses the challenges health care payers face in assessing quality care.
American International Healthcare is a wholly owned subsidiary of American International Group (AIG), and is a full service managed health care consulting organization. It provides a full array of resources to support the managed care industry, including comprehensive computer systems, data banks, consulting and international advisory services. AIH currently supports 36 health plans with advanced managed care systems.
