GMC TRUCK ANNOUNCES RECORD-SETTING SALES PERFORMANCE

DETROIT, Jan. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- GMC Truck today announced record- setting sales performance in the 1992 calendar year. The announcement was made by Roy S. Roberts, GM vice president and GMC Truck general manager, at the North American International Auto Show.
GMC Truck reported sales of 359,365 units, an 18.4-percent increase over 1991 levels, marking the third-highest calendar-year sales in the division's 90-year history. Market share for the division increased from 6.9 percent in 1991 to 7.3 percent in 1992.
Models achieving historic sales records in 1992 include the Safari van at 38,873 units, up 17.5 percent over 1991 levels and W-series (cab forward) light- and medium-duty trucks at 4,557 total units, up 52.9 percent.
Other GMC Truck models posting strong sales for the calendar year include: Yukon, up 152.5 percent; Suburban, up 41.5 percent; Jimmy, up 37.6 percent; Sierra fullsize pickups, up 18.9 percent and Sonoma up 7.6 percent.
"Our 1992 sales performance even outpaced the industry," said Roberts. "We expect 1993 to be even better, based on the growing strength and market acceptance of our products introduced this past fall. We are already seeing substantially higher sales rates on several of our 1993 model trucks."
Roberts said model year-to-date sales at GMC Truck are outpacing last year by 24 percent and the division projects to further increase its market share to 7.7 percent in 1993.
"We've got momentum and nothing can stand in our way," Roberts said.
