GM SETTLES CASE WITH CUSTOMS FOR $3M
WASHINGTON, April 3 /PRNewswire/ -- General Motors Corporation

(NYSE: GM) has paid the United States Customs Service $3,095,550 in settlement of a potential civil penalty case involving Pontiac LeMans automobiles imported by GM in 1987 and 1988, the agency announced today.
Customs had alleged that certain dutiable design and development costs for the LeMans, produced in South Korea in a joint venture between GM and Daewoo Motors Company, were not declared to Customs at the time of entry.
The settlement follows a four-year investigation by Customs special agents, import specialists and auditors in Detroit. GM cooperated in both the Customs investigation and the determination of the correct duties owed the government.
