GM PROVIDES $100,000 GRANT TO PENN STATE AS PART OF OVERALL $500,000 GRANT

/ADVANCE/UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa., Oct. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- As part of its ongoing five-year commitment to Pennsylvania State University, General Motors (NYSE: GM) today (Oct. 8) presented the school with a GM Foundation check for $100,000.
In a ceremony at Penn State's Alumni Hall, the GM contribution was presented to the university's president, Joab Thomas, by Jan E. Tannehill, a GM vice president and general manager of AC Rochester Division, who also serves as the automaker's key executive to the institution.
"This $100,000 contribution represents the fourth annual installment of GM's overall pledge of $500,000 to Penn State's College of Earth and Mineral Sciences, and its College of Engineering," noted Tannehill, who was joined by a number of his GM colleagues from Michigan.
The cumulative gift of $400,000 has assisted many deserving minority students to attend the university, which is nationally recognized for the excellence of its Earth and Mineral Sciences and Engineering schools.
In addition to providing scholarship support for minority students, GM's grant has underwritten projects such as the development of teaching internship programs and the renovation of select Penn State research laboratories.
