 GM NORTH AMERICAN OPERATIONS APPOINTS LECHTZIN
 DIRECTOR OF TECHNOLOGY IMAGE DEVELOPMENT
 WARREN, Mich., Sept. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- The appointment of Ed Lechtzin to the newly created position of director of technology image development for General Motors North American Operations (NAO) public affairs staff was announced today. Lechtzin will direct his staff from the GM Technical Center and report directly to William J. O'Neill Jr., NAO public affairs director.
 "This critical new function will further develop the leadership position of General Motors technical staffs and emphasize the future direction of technology development as a positive influence on our corporate image," O'Neill commented.
 "Lechtzin is a veteran newsman and automotive public relations professional. His knowledge of current and future industry trends will enable him to proactively position General Motors' impressive technology story."
 Lechtzin, 52, is a native of Detroit and a graduate of Wayne State University. After a 15-year career at United Press International (UPI) in Detroit, including five years as automotive editor, he joined General Motors in 1978 as a manager in the corporate news relations section. He subsequently served as manager of the GM Public Affairs Newsletter, assistant director of public relations for Chevrolet Motor Division, and since June 1, 1989, as director of public relations for the Pontiac Division.
