GM NAMES STEINHAGEN TO EXPORT SALES POST

 DETROIT, Jan. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- The appointment of James E. Steinhagen as assistant general sales and service manager of North American Export Sales (NAES) was announced today by Richard M. Lee, executive in charge of the organization. The appointment is effective Feb. 1, 1993.
 A native of Detroit, Mr. Steinhagen earned a bachelor of science degree from Arizona State University in 1971 and a MBA from the University of Chicago in 1973.
 Mr. Steinhagen joined General Motors in New York in 1973 and was assigned to Adam Opel AG in West Germany as a field representative- dealer contact. In 1976, Mr. Steinhagen joined GM Continental in Belgium as manager of sales operations for U.S. car sales. He later became manager of the regional marketing unit at GM Continental until 1979, when he returned to Adam Opel AG as manager of business planning.
 In 1981, Mr. Steinhagen returned to the United States and joined Pontiac Motor Division as assistant zone manager in Minneapolis. He moved to Detroit in 1982 to become manager of planning for Joint Ventures and African Operations. In 1983, he became director of planning for Asian and African Operations.
 Mr. Steinhagen moved to Tokyo in 1987 to be director, planning and liaison, for GM Overseas Corporation - Japan. He became director, North American Vehicle Sales Japan, in 1989, and was promoted to vice president, Marketing, Sales and Service of GM Japan in 1991, the position he held until this appointment.
 In his new position, Mr. Steinhagen will oversee the customer service, merchandising, fleet/government/military and allied GM sales for NAES. He will serve on the NAES Executive Team and report to James L. Fry, general sales and service manager.
 At the same time, Mr. Lee announced the retirements of William Shea Jr., director of large car product planning for NAES, and Wesson Lambert, director of fleet/government/military sales for NAES. Both will retire Feb. 1, 1993, under provisions of the GM retirement program.
