GM ISSUES UPDATED STATEMENT

DETROIT, Feb. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- The following was released today by General Motors (NYSE: GM):
As our attorney, Mr. Bartlit, informed the jury in Atlanta today, we always try to learn from and evaluate evidence presented in a trial. As Mr. Bartlit also told the jury, General Motors has cooperated and will continue to cooperate with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration as it conducts its investigation. As part of this review, GM will offer to meet with NHTSA to review the facts of this 70-mph side impact into a 1985 Chevrolet pickup truck, and the performance of GM's truck in the Moseley accident. However, our continuing review indicates that there is no safety-related defect in these 1973-1987 pickup trucks, and we therefore do not believe that a safety recall is necessary or required. We believe today's verdict is not correct, and we intend to file an appeal.
