In January 1989 she was appointed a staff assistant on the News Relations staff at GM's Technical Center in Warren, Mich. She returned to Detroit in December 1991 with news relations responsibilities for the corporation's purchasing and production control activities.
Prior to joining GM, Simonetti was employed at The Advisor Newspaper Group based in Utica, Mich., from January 1980 to May 1985, first as a general assignment reporter and later as editor.
