GM ANNOUNCES THREE SAFETY RECALLS

 GM ANNOUNCES THREE SAFETY RECALLS
DETROIT, Nov. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- General Motors (NYSE: GM) said today

it is conducting three recalls to correct specific safety-related conditions on certain passenger car and truck models.
The first recall involves approximately 44,000 1992 model Chevrolet Camaro and Pontiac Firebird coupes equipped with automatic transmissions. On these vehicles, the shift control cable may separate, preventing the transmission from being shifted into the desired position. This could result in unexpected vehicle movement and the possibility of a collision. Dealers will replace the shift cable with a redesigned cable at no charge to customers.
The second recall involves about 7,000 1985-92 commercial chassis truck units equipped with 6.2L diesel engines, I-beam front axles, disc/drum power brakes and load rated from 11,000 to 11,500 pounds Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW). The subject vehicles may exhibit circumferential cracking in front wheels, just outside the bolt mounting circle or just underneath the clamp ring. Eventually the rim portion of the wheel could separate. GM will replace all wheels, including the spare, with newly redesigned units at no charge to owners.
The third recall involves approximately 386,000 1990-1991 model Buick, Oldsmobile, Pontiac and Chevrolet mid-size passenger cars equipped with six-way power seats with the recliner feature. Power seat wiring may become pinched or chafed against the seat frame, resulting in intermittent "short" circuits and excessive heat buildup. GM dealers will inspect the wiring and install a clip to ensure that the wiring harness is properly routed. Inspection and repairs will be made at no charge to the customer.
