 GM ANNOUNCES INITIATIVE FOR SUPPLIERS
 DETROIT, Feb. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- General Motors (NYSE: GM) today


announced it is increasing efforts with its suppliers to encourage their employes to purchase new GM cars and trucks. GM will work toward providing matching or supplemental funds to suppliers who offer financial assistance to their employes when they purchase new 1992 GM products.
 "A number of GM suppliers recently have offered purchase assistance programs to their employes to help get the economy going, and to help boost sales of new GM vehicles," said Donald A. Pais, GM vice president in charge of Materials Management Staff.
 "We're appreciative of these programs, and of the partnership spirit we've been developing with our suppliers," he added. "This matching fund program is our way of saying, 'Thanks'."
 Pais said GM is making the program available to thousands of suppliers who collectively employ millions of people.
 "Our suppliers have been resourceful in their efforts to help us get our costs in line, to improve product quality, reliability and durability, and to stimulate consumer interest in our products," said Pais. "They're helping us put quality on the road."
