GM/UAW WORKERS PARTICIPATE IN NEW ENGLAND INTERNATIONAL AUTO SHOW
BOSTON, Oct. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Listening to customers and talking about product quality will be the role of nearly 100 General Motors plant employes from across the United States and Canada during the New England International Auto Show here, which runs Oct. 31 - Nov. 8, 1992.
This is the fourth year that GM employes and United Auto Workers Union (UAW) members from automotive assembly and engine plants will bring their manufacturing and assembly expertise to U.S. auto shows to answer questions about the products they build. This is the first time, however, they are participating in the New England show. The employes will be stationed in each of GM's car and truck display areas.
This GM/UAW employe participation program is sponsored by the Quality Network, a joint effort by the UAW and General Motors to create a corporation-wide total quality process that focuses on product quality and total customer satisfaction through people, teamwork and continuous improvement.
GM President John F. Smith, Jr. and Stephen P. Yokich, UAW Vice President and Director of the GM Department, are co-chairs of GM's North American Operations' UAW-GM Quality Council.
"We are proud that the GM men and women who build the product and know it best will have the opportunity to discuss and present their vehicles to the customer," Smith and Yokich said. "We are working together to produce the highest quality vehicles and are confident people attending the show will see that GM and the UAW are truly focused on customer satisfaction."
Yokich further stated, "Having UAW employes participate in auto shows is testimony to the commitment we have to product quality and the confidence we have in them and the products they build."
GM/UAW employes have participated in auto shows throughout the U.S. since 1989.
