WARREN, Mich., Nov. 30 ~PRNewswire~ -- General Motors (NYSE: GM) and EDS (NYSE: GME) executives today announced they have signed a long-term agreement for EDS to provide all computer information processing and communications services for GM's North American Operations (NAO) activities. Services covered in the agreement include systems design, development, testing, implementation, maintenance and support.
Announced jointly by Robert W. Hendry, GM vice president in charge of NAO Finance, and Frank L. Stoneking, EDS corporate vice president, the agreement is designed to utilize EDS' capability to reduce GM's costs and integrate the network of systems which serve the GM-NAO organization.
EDS has agreed to provide competitive information technology solutions to GM-NAO, and will commit to performance levels similar to those required of all long-term GM suppliers. In addition, GM-NAO will provide EDS with the opportunity to compete for GM-NAO business that falls outside the scope of traditional data processing and communications services covered in the agreement.
"EDS brings to GM-NAO a worldwide computing and communications infrastructure which will assist efforts to leverage our use of information technology," said Hendry. "Together, GM-NAO and EDS will work to improve the GM operations covered by the agreement, and to reduce costs by re-engineering business processes, developing and implementing common computer systems, and using information technology strategically."
"This agreement demonstrates EDS' commitment to help GM-NAO achieve a competitive advantage through the effective use of information technology as an enabler for positive change," Stoneking added.
The agreement has a term of five years and is effective immediately.
