GM'S IGNACIO LOPEZ NAMED MAN OF THE YEAR

DETROIT, Feb. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Dr. Ignacio Lopez, director of General Motors' Worldwide Purchasing operations, was named Man Of The Year today by the editorial staff of Automotive Industries magazine. The magazine has been presenting the annual award for the last 30 years to automotive executives who have had a significant impact on the auto industry.
In announcing Dr. Lopez's selection, John McElroy, editor in chief of Automotive Industries, said, "Ignacio Lopez has been the dominant newsmaker in the auto industry since he arrived in Detroit last May. He is implementing an efficiency program which, though unpopular in many quarters, is going to make GM's North American suppliers the most competitive in the world. When the books are closed for 1993 we're sure that Dr. Lopez's Purchasing group will have done more to aid GM's return to profitability than any other group within the corporation's automotive operations."
Automotive Industries is a monthly magazine that reaches the Original Equipment Manufacturing (OEM) companies -- both automakers and suppliers -- in the global automotive market. It is published by the Chilton Company, one of the Capital Cities/ABC Publishing companies.
