GLUON DEBUTS PROGRIDS XTENSION DESIGNER SMART TOOL.

Software developer GLUON has introduced a new XTension for design professionals called ProGrids. Previously, constructing a design grid was a painstaking and arduous task. GLUON ProGrids streamlines this process by making grid creation simple and fast. Designers the world over have long used a horizontal and vertical grid system to let them size and position both text and graphic elements in their layouts. GLUON ProGrids gives designers a straightforward dialog box where they can specify how many rows and/or columns they want and how far apart and how wide those rows or columns should be. The grids placed by ProGrids can be any of several colors, including two shades of a neutral gray.

GLUON ProGrids does all the calculations for the designer. If six columns with a 1/4 inch gutter are specified, the column width will be calculated automatically and interactively. Change one measurement and ProGrids will instantly recalculate and update the page. As an option, one or more elements can be locked to prevent this recalculation, thereby ensuring that gutters or columns will maintain a fixed width if desired. Grids can go from margin to margin, to the edge of the page or start and end at a user-specified location. Grids can be made to lock to the baseline if needed, and the baseline grid can be modified directly in the ProGrids XTension. GLUON ProGrids can save grids as presets for quick recall of settings with just a few clicks. Grids can also be printed for design reference.

Features include the following:

* Margin-to-Margin, Edge-to-Edge and Manual grids

* Independent control over Horizontal and Vertical grids and gutters

* Interlock allows certain fields to be locked and others to calculate automatically

* Choice of many colors

* Ability to add grid measurements and line counts in the margins

* Powerful baseline grid controls

* Ability to create different master page margins on each page or apply new margins to a page range

* Ability to apply grids to page range or whole document

* 10 standard grids

* Ability to save, print and add new grids to a presets menu

"This serves as a great replacement for the no-longer-supported Grids & Guides XTension from Scitex (as of this press release)," said Peter McClard, GLUON CEO. "Designing with a grid system makes your work easier. ProGrids lets you automate the whole grid-making process," observed Seth Elgart, GLUON VP and director of sales and marketing.

ProGrids is available for $99.

Also available is GuideViewer, a freely distributable XTension users can send along with their XPress files. GuideViewer maintains guide colors and keeps guides locked when giving files to XPress users who do not yet own any of GLUON's guide making XTensions (including ProGrids, ProGuides and Cropster). Even without GuideViewer Quark files are still openable, but all guides will be the default guide color and unlocked.
