GLORIA ESTEFAN TO HIGHLIGHT SUPERBOWL XXVI HALFTIME SHOW

GLORIA ESTEFAN TO HIGHLIGHT SUPERBOWL XXVI HALFTIME SHOW
SANTA MONICA, Calif., Jan. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- International superstar Gloria Estefan will take a break from her highly acclaimed world concert tour to be the featured guest performer at "Winter Magic," the Super Bowl XXVI halftime show spectacular, on Sunday, Jan. 26, at the Metrodome in Minneapolis, Minn.
Estefan's scorching Latin rhythms will heat up the grand finale's salute to the winter season, which will feature a cast and supporting crew of 1,500 people.
"We are thrilled to have an entertainer as popular and versatile as Gloria serving as the centerpiece for our unique halftime presentation," said Roger Pearsall, president of Timberline Productions, which is producing the show. "The NFL is going to present a spellbinding production that will entertain audiences both inside the Metrodome and at home watching on television."
Since she first burst onto the pop charts in 1985 with the fiery global hit "Conga," Estefan and her band, Miami Sound Machine, have sold more than 18 million albums, had 17 Top Ten hits and created a style and sound all their own with a unique blend of pop, rock, dance and Latin rhythms.
Estefan's latest album, "Into the Light," which was released in early 1991, has already produced three Top Ten hits -- "Coming Out of the Dark," which was number one for two weeks on the U.S. and Latin American charts, "Can't Forget You" and the current hit single, "Live for Loving You."
In conjunction with the album release, Estefan kicked off her "Into the Light" world tour in Miami on March 1, 1991, and has played to sold-out audiences throughout Europe, North America, Australia and Southeast Asia. After her Super Bowl appearance, the tour will continue with performances in Mexico, Puerto Rico, South America and Central America.
When the "Into the Light" tour wraps in April 1992, Estefan will have played to well over 1 1/2 million people on five continents.
1991 was a banner year for Estefan, with a hit-filled popular album, a sold-out world tour and a triumphant comeback from a much-publicized bus accident, which left her with a severe back injury.
Timberline Productions, a full-service presentation company based in Phoenix, Ariz., is coordinating all aspects of the halftime show, including choreography, costume design and the original score. Timberline is co-owned by Pearsall, a former Disney executive, and Mike Heyl, a former Marriott executive.
