GLOBAL SPILL MANAGEMENT, INC., SIGNS CONTRACT UNDER OPA 90

PARKERFORD, Pa., July 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Global Spill Management, Inc. (GSMI) (NASDAQ: GSMI), and its subsidiaries, classified by the United States Coast Guard under the Oil Pollution Act of 1990 to respond to oil spills of up to 10,000 barrels a day, has signed over 40 spill response contracts, representing coverage of over 150 terminals and facilities, and 35 vessels, with major shipping, utility, petrochemical, pharmaceutical and other companies, including a major utility in the Mid-Atlantic region with over 70 facilities.
The Oil Pollution Act of 1990 (OPA '90) requires all vessels carrying oil as cargo, and all terminals and facilities handling oil to file oil spill response plans with the United States Coast Guard, and to identify specific contractors who will respond to spills for which the vessels, terminals or facilities are responsible.
Peter V. White, chairman and chief executive officer of GSMI, stated: "GSMI and its subsidiaries have moved aggressively to solicit and execute contracts under OPA '90 with major shipping line, utilities, petrochemical and other companies. The effect of OPA '90 has been to identify, for major corporations, the spill response companies that have the equipment, supplies and manpower to respond to major spills in their respective areas. The Coast Guard's classification of GSMI's subsidiaries under OPA '90 has recognized GSMI's ability to respond to major inland spills and to major spills in the ports of New York and Philadelphia and the Delaware River Basin."
