GLOBAL MARINE MOBILIZES DRILLING RIGS TO GULF OF MEXICO

HOUSTON, March 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Global Marine Inc. (NYSE: GLM) announced today that it will move three of its cantilever jackup drilling rigs to the U.S. Gulf of Mexico. The company will mobilize the Glomar Main Pass I, a 300-foot jackup currently located in the North Sea, and the Glomar High Island III and the Glomar High Island VIII, both 250-foot jackups currently located in West Africa, to the U.S. Gulf of Mexico. All three rigs are expected to arrive in the U.S. within 30 days. Additionally, the company will mobilize the Glomar Adriatic IV, a 328-foot jackup, from the U.S. Gulf of Mexico to Trinidad under a six- well drilling contract with Enron Gas & Oil Trinidad Limited. Enron's drilling program is expected to last approximately 14 months.
 C. Russell Luigs, Global Marine chairman, president and chief executive officer, stated, "Following these moves, we will have eight of our 23 drilling rigs located in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico. The redeployment enables us to take advantage of the increased dayrates that have resulted from the continued strength of domestic natural gas prices. Presently, all of our rigs in the Gulf of Mexico are working under contracts expected to extend through mid-year. We are in advanced discussions with several clients and are confident the additional rigs will be contracted at favorable rates upon their arrival."
Houston-based Global Marine is an international offshore drilling contractor, offers turnkey drilling services and has interests in oil and gas production.
