GLEE WILLY; Liverpool hearts are broken by City's spot-kick hero Caballero; A man of his word hails Cab; CAPITAL ONE CUP FINAL, AFTER EXTRA TIME: CITY WIN 3-1 ON PENS.

TEARFUL Willy Caballero broke Liverpool's hearts - then revealed his hat-trick of penalty saves was pure instinct.

The stand-in keeper saved three in a row in the shootout to hand outgoing ss City boss Manuel Pellegrini his third trophy in as many seasons.

Pellegrini was under pressure to go with No.1 keeper Joe Hart at Wembley but kept faith with Caballero, who had played in every previous round.

The Argentinian was overcome with emotion as he said: "It's fantastic for all the Blue people. I tried to watch all the penalties last night on video but my intuition got me through.

"It was a hard week for me, but we had a talk that we could do it and this is a first trophy for me and my family in Argentina."

Pellegrini, who will make way for Pep Guardiola this summer, said: "I'm not happy because we've won a trophy in my final season, but I am happy for Caballero because he deserves this.

"I'm also happy for Joe Hart, who is not only a great keeper and a good person, but he was supporting Willy during the shoot-out.

"I prefer to lose the final than go back on my word. There was never any chance Willy was not going to play. My word is more important than football.

"Willy is a very good goalkeeper. He waited until the last moment, he never tried to guess which way they were going to shoot."

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp vowed his men would bounce back - starting with Wednesday's sequel with City in the Premier League at Anfield.

He said: "Do you think I go home, close the door and stay there four weeks? You have to feel a defeat, you can't say it's not important.

"You can fall down, but you have to stand up. Only silly idiots stay on the floor and wait for the next defeat to come along and we will strike back - 100 per cent."
