GKI ANNOUNCES CONTRACT WITH PI ELECTRONICS CORPORATION TO PRODUCE THE
NEW ZIPSTER PLUS,' A RETAIL AUTOMATED MAILING SYSTEM
ROCKVILLE, Md., Nov. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- General Kinetics Incorporated (GKI) (NASDAQ-NMS: GKIE), a technology-based manufacturer headquartered in Rockville, today announced that it has executed a $514,000 contract with PI Electronics Corporation of Houston, to produce 30 of the new "Zipster Plus" automated mailing systems for a U.S. Postal Service (USPS) market test at selected convenience stores in North Carolina and Texas.
PI Electronics is under contract to provide up to 50 such machines for the USPS' market test of the machine for the upcoming Christmas mailing season. GKI has an exclusive manufacturing license with PI Electronics Corporation to produce the "Zipster Plus" mailing systems.
Richard A. Thompson, president, stated, "This contract allows GKI to diversify its enclosure marketplace, which to date has been heavily dependent on the U.S. Navy, and takes advantage of GKI's capability to provide fully electronics-ready enclosures."
Asher Gil, chairman and CEO of PI stated, "Convenience stores have been selected as the first market segment because they are looking for new services to attract customers into their stores, much like standalone ATM machines which have recently been introduced in the convenience store environment."
GKI manufactures secure facsimile and communications equipment at its facility in Herndon, Va. Additionally, GKI's Electronic Enclosure Division, headquartered in Orlando, Fla., and with operations in Johnstown, Pa., is a leader in the manufacture of precision machined and fabricated electronic enclosures. Other products manufactured by GKI include food materials testing and machine vision systems.
