GIRLS? I WAS JUST POTTY FOR SNOOKER; Snooker star and A Question Of Sport team captain John Parrot talks to JANE SIMON...
Me being a sporting anorak, I love sports autobiographies and I'm a massive National Hunt fan so I loved Martin Pipe's autobiography. He revolutionised training methods for National Hunt horses. I've read it about eight times.
WHAT'S YOUR FAVOURITE POSSESSION?
The Ebel watch that was given to me when I won the World Championships in 1991. It reminds me of when I was good!
WHO DO YOU MOST ADMIRE?
John Francome. He was an artist in the saddle - one of the best jockeys ever. He was also blessed with great character. I've met him a couple of times and he's game for a laugh.
WHAT'S YOUR FAVOURITE TV PROGRAMME?
My wife Karen and I love Friends. We stay in on a Friday night to watch it with a bottle of wine and some cheese and bickies. I don't think the new series is as good as the first two though.
WHAT WAS THE FIRST RECORD YOU EVER BOUGHT?
Dance Away by Roxy Music and I wouldn't do Bryan Ferry any favours by telling him how old I was when I bought it.
WHAT'S YOUR FAVOURITE PHOTOGRAPH?
It's a picture my wife took of our son Josh, who'll be four on New Year's Day, eating a lovely big gooey ice lolly. He's a handsome little devil and he's got his hat on the wrong way round and he looks an absolute little angel. Josh and his little sister Ellie, who's a year old, are the light of our lives.
WHAT'S YOUR FAVOURITE FILM?
The Big Sleep starring Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall. It's absolute class right the way through. The violence is hardly anything - there's no f-ing and blinding, just fantastic atmosphere.
WHAT'S YOUR FAVOURITE ITEM OF CLOTHING?
My Russell Athletic tracksuit bottoms for slobbing around the house. If I've been playing a tournament and wearing a dress suit for 10 days, the last thing I want to do is get all dressed up when I get home.
WHO WAS YOUR FIRST ROMANCE?
I was in love with snooker and didn't know what girls were until I was 18. The only great romance I've had in my life is Karen. We met 13 years ago at a dance at the Walton Hospital Social Club and our first date was at a small pub in Liverpool. She never stopped talking all night and I knew immediately I was going to marry her.
WHAT'S BEEN YOUR MOST EMBARRASSING MOMENT?
I lost in the 1989 World Final by 18 frames to 3 and it was the most depressing time. Steve Davis absolutely slaughtered me. When it was about 12-3, I just wanted to go home.
