GILBERT ASSOCIATES ANNOUNCES NEW CORPORATE, SUBSIDIARY PRESIDENTS

 READING, Pa., Oct. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- As part of its previously announced management succession program, Gilbert Associates, Inc. (NASDAQ: GILBA) today announced the election of Timothy S. Cobb as president and chief operating officer.
 William K. Burkhart was named to replace Cobb as president of Gilbert/Commonwealth, Inc., its largest operating subsidiary. The moves are effective today.
 Cobb, 52, will succeed Alexander F. Smith as chief executive officer on the latter's March 1, 1994, retirement (Note: Smith continues as CEO until his retirement.) Before becoming president of Gilbert/Commonwealth, Cobb headed GAI-Tronics Corp., another Gilbert company; he previously was president and CEO of Indiana Bell Communications and vice president of American Information Technologies (Ameritech), Chicago. He is a graduate of Indiana University and resides in Wyomissing, Pa.
 Burkhart, 46, joined the Gilbert organization in 1969. Since 1986 he was vice president of Gilbert/Commonwealth's Utility and Industrial Services Division. He previously served as director of projects and as project manager on several key power plant projects.
 Burkhart, a Wyomissing resident, holds a B.S. in civil engineering from Rose Polytechnic Institute and is a registered professional engineer in Pennsylvania, Michigan and Ohio.
