 ANAHEIM, Calif., Sept. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- A once-in-a-lifetime gathering of historic Disney personalities -- animators, Mouseketeers, comic book illustrators and creative individuals from virtually every segment of The Walt Disney Co. -- will highlight the Official Disneyana Convention 1993, Sept. 16 through 19 at the Disneyland Hotel.
 This second-annual edition of the Official Disneyana Convention, largest in the world and the only such convention sponsored and organized by the Walt Disney Co., will be the first to be held in California, home of Disneyland and the largest concentration of serious Disneyana collectors in the world.
 The Convention will offer these fans and collectors a breathtaking abundance of unusual, hard-to-find, limited edition and one-of-a-kind items to suit every taste in Disneyana: animation cels, watches, dolls, toys, books, autographs, figurines, clothing, ceramics, etc. The most unusual items, including some classic cels and other original artwork, will be sold at an auction Friday evening, conducted by David Redden of Sotheby's.
 The Convention's Limited Edition sale will include such treasures as an "Annette" doll by the Alexander Doll Company, a plush Minnie Mouse by Gund, a glass sculpture of "Mickey Mouse: The Band Leader" by Arribas Brothers, and ceramic pieces by Lladro, Goebel and Giuseppe Armani.
 There will also be several Limited Edition pieces created especially by Disney Art Editions for the Convention. The new works include maquettes (or character models) of "Beauty and the Beast"; a hand- painted cel recreation of "Maestro Mickey" inspired by the cartoon "The Band Concert," and "Walt's Train," a unique artwork featuring a photograph of Walt Disney aboard his model train, overlaid with a hand- painted cel of Disney characters as train passengers.
 Throughout the convention there will be appearances by individuals who have made significant contributions to the Disney legacy. Confirmed guests include no fewer than eight of the original "Mickey Mouse Club" Mouseketeers, among them Annette Funicello, Karen Pendleton, Cubby O'Brien and Bobby Burgess.
 The Sherman Brothers, whose musical achievements includes songs from "Mary Poppins," "Winnie the Pooh" and Disneyland's "It's a Small World" attraction, will be on hand, as will legendary figures from the world of Disney art and animation.
 These will include ...
 -- Carl Barks, "father" of Uncle Scrooge, Gyro Gearloose and other characters who first came to life in the Disney comic books Barks helped create;
 -- Eyvind Earle, who graduated from Disney to a successful career as a contemporary fine artist, his work on view in many leading galleries; Earle supervised the distinctively stylized color and backgrounds of "Sleeping Beauty"; and ...
 -- Surviving members of Disney's "Nine Old Men," directing animators from the early years -- Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnston (lifelong friends and, in recent years, co-authors of several books on Disney animation), Ward Kimball and Marc Davis.
 Along with the auction (7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Friday) and the merchandise sales (Friday afternoon and all day Saturday and Sunday), event highlights of the Official Disneyana Convention 1993 will include appearances by a number of surprise guest speakers (9 a.m. to noon, Friday), a panel of great Disney animators, past and present (2 to 5 p.m. Saturday), and a gala dinner and show hosted by Disneyland's President Jack Lindquist and featuring surprise guests (7:30 - 9:30 p.m. Saturday).
 Throughout the weekend, conventioneers will have the opportunity to visit with representatives of Disney business groups, 18 in all, and learn about the latest Disney happenings in publishing, theme parks, home video, broadcasting, music, computer software, etc.
 All convention events through Saturday (except for the auction) will be open to registered conventioneers only. A limited number of reservations is still available; telephone 714-284-6000 details. (Hotel & convention packages, Sept. 16-18; $880 single occupancy; $1,400 double occupancy. Local resident package, convention only, proof of California residence required; $515 per person.)
 A limited number of auction admissions and paddles will be available at the door Friday evening for $25.
 Sunday is "Public Day" at the convention. (Please note: registered conventioneers will have had first access to Limited Edition items. Supplies of these unique collectibles are limited.) Tickets to Public Day are $30 on Sunday, $25 in advance. For further information call 714-490-3935. Media Coverage Is Welcome.
 The Official Disneyana Convention should provide a unique opportunity to interview Disney "legends," as well as to observe an unusual concentration of Disney fanatics.
 The Convention will feature some "surprise" entertainment and guest appearances.
