GIANT CEMENT GRANTED PART B HARLEYVILLE, S.C., Oct. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Giant Group Ltd.
(NYSE: GPO) announced that the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control has issued Giant Cement Co., a wholly owned subsidiary of Giant Group Ltd., a Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) Part B Permit for the storage, management and beneficial use of hazardous waste at its cement manufacturing facilities in Harleyville, S.C. The permit is effective from Oct. 30, 1992, through Oct. 30, 1997. Giant has 15 days to evaluate whether any conditions or terms of the permit should be appealed.
Giant Cement has been storing and beneficially reusing waste fuels for energy recovery under a temporary RCRA interim status permit since 1985. Now that Giant has the five-year permit, it will be able to expand its storage facilities to accommodate greater utilization of waste fuels. Giant Group Ltd. owns 40 percent of Rally's Inc. (NASDAQ: RLLY). Rally's is the nation's largest double drive-thru hamburger chain and operates or franchises 423 restaurants in 25 states. Giant also owns Keystone Cement Co. in Bath, Pa.
