GIANOTTEN NAMED PRESIDENT OF SIMON & SCHUSTER INTERNATIONAL PUBLISHING GROUP

 NEW YORK, Nov. 24 ~PRNewswire~ -- Frans N. Gianotten has been named president of Simon & Schuster's International Publishing Group, which is part of the publishing operations of Paramount Communications Inc. He succeeds Henry Hirschberg who was appointed president of the organization's Higher Education Group in May.
 Mr. Gianotten, 48, was formerly president of the European and Pacific Publishing Group and a member of the senior management group of Addison-Wesley. He joined with that company in 1978 and over the years held increasingly responsible management positions. One of his major achievements was the establishment of local language publishing operations throughout Europe, the Middle East and the Pacific.
 Previously, Mr. Gianotten worked for McGraw-Hill, Richard D. Irwin and ALDIPRESS, which is part of United Dutch Publishing (V.N.U.) He holds a 1964 Bachelor of Science degree in printing management from the College of Graphic Arts in Amsterdam and participated in the International Study~Work Program at Antioch College, Yellow Springs, Ohio.
 In announcing the appointment, Jonathan Newcomb, president of Simon & Schuster, said, "As the borders of the global village continue to be erased, the international marketplace will play an increasingly greater role in determining the future success of our business. We are pleased and delighted to welcome Frans Gianotten to lead our international management team."
 Mr. Gianotten is a Dutch national and is fluent in several European languages. He and his family live in Amsterdam, where he also serves as chairman of the STM Publishing Association's Editorial and Marketing Committee and as a member of the Dutch Publishing Association.
