GETTING IT OFF MY CHEST; What's been getting Birchy's goat this week.

I WAITED nearly three months to back Overlaw. Noted in red ink as "miles ahead of the handicapper when dropped to two miles".

Scanned the declarations last week with mounting excitement. D-day was Tuesday. One of the weakest Southwell events you could wish to find. Simply couldn't envisage defeat. Sadly, Overlaw was soon miles ahead of his conditional jockey after unseating him at the second fence.

I licked my wounds and leapt back into action 24 hours later to back Trabolgan at Doncaster. He was cruising when unseating Barry Geraghty four out. It's a cruel game sometimes. Read Richard Birch every week in the Racing & Football Outlook
