GESCAN INTRODUCES GROUPWARE FOR DOCUMENT AND WORKFLOW MANAGEMENT
RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C., April 7 /PRNewswire/ -- GESCAN International today announced the first in a series of Groupware products for Document and Workflow Management. The first product forms the core of the product line. Intended as a general solution to the document and workflow management problem, it is targeted at Value Added Resellers and end-users who want to tailor the interface and functionality to their own needs.
Future announcements introducing groupware for managing documents and workflow in specific offices will be made over the next four months. The first office-specific products will be GESCAN-EDMS (Engineering Document Management System) for the engineering office, GESCAN-HRS (Human Resource System) for the human resources office, and GESCAN-CIS (Competitive Intelligence System) for the marketing office. GESCAN-AMHS (Automated Message Handling System) for government intelligence offices is already available. A fifth product announcement will introduce GESCAN A-Ware, a revolutionary groupware product for the Unix/Windows 3.x environment.
GESCAN groupware combines the functionality of text search and retrieval, image management and workflow management into a simple, integrated software package. "Just as automated materials management systems pay for themselves by delivering the right MATERIALS to the right people at the right time, GESCAN groupware pays for itself by delivering the right INFORMATION to the right people at the right time," said Dale Rowe, President and CEO of GESCAN International. GESCAN'S FAST TEXT PROCESSING ALGORITHM PERMITS SIMPLE IMPLEMENTATION
Simplicity is achieved through application of the unique GESCAN text processing algorithm found in the heart of all GESCAN products. This algorithm performs character matching, numeric ranging, proximity and logic resolution at speeds over 10,000 times that of competing technology.
The speed advantage of GESCAN's algorithm implementation makes it possible to manage documents without indexing and manage workflow without workflow programming.
Document management functions include revision management, storage, retrieval, archiving, access control and auditing. Workflow management functions include routing, filtering, alerting, approval control and report generation.
Because of the speed at which GESCAN can read the content of documents (plus any identifying or controlling information appended to the documents), and perform all necessary calculations, GESCAN controls the retrieval, routing, filtering, and alerting functions without adding any indexing or structure. It simply examines each document entering or exiting a database for content. If the content matches a user or group "interest profile," the document is processed as directed by the profile.
Because of algorithm efficiency, many "interest profiles" can be processed simultaneously. For environments where the document receipt/retrieval/editing transaction rates are high, a hardware accelerator is available to assist in performing the necessary calculations.
