COLUMBUS, Ohio, Nov. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Germany's leading news agency, Deutsche Presse-Agentur (DPA), is now part of the CompuServe Information Service, the leading worldwide provider of online services for personal computer users. With the addition of full-text German language articles from DPA, CompuServe features the world's only multi- lingual online news service for consumers. DPA will be of special interest to the more than 85,000 CompuServe members in Europe.
DPA joins the Associated Press, United Press International, Reuters, the Washington Post and OTC NewsAlert as part of CompuServe's Executive News Service. All are continuously updated, 24- hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week. DPA carries news about politics, economics, lifestyles, sports and other subjects from Germany and around the world. Full text articles are offered in the same format as the English- language news wires, allowing users to scan headlines or take advantage of the clipping service option which automatically monitors news wires for stories containing user-specified words or phrases. Stories are clipped as they come across the wires and held in electronic folders for later review.
In addition, a modified version of DPA is offered as part of CompuServe's basic services, available for a monthly fee of $8.95. Also in German, this service features headlines and news from the world of sports, politics and culture updated throughout the day.
"CompuServe's growing international presence enriches the online experience for all of our members," said David Eastburn, CompuServe's vice president of, product marketing. "With offerings such as DPA we help our members follow international news, establish friendships with members from other nations and sharpen their multi-language skills. This is one more example of how CompuServe is shrinking the globe and improving communications for members around the world."
CompuServe members pay $8.95 per month for unlimited connect-time access to 48 basic services. Extended services are available on a pay-as-you-go basis for $8 per hour when accessing with a 1200 or 2400 bits per second modem and $16 per hour at 9.6 or 14.4 kilobits per second.
