GERMANY'S FORD BANK AG PLACES $1 MILLION ORDER FOR DATAPOINT EQUIPMENT
SAN ANTONIO, April 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Datapoint Corporation (NYSE: DPT) today announced that a $1 million order has been placed by Ford Bank AG of Cologne, Germany.
The sale -- made by Datapoint Deutchland GmbH in Frankfurt -- includes computers and peripheral equipment for 13 Ford Bank branches across Germany, including the bank's headquarters in Cologne. Ford Bank, which finances, leases, and insures automobiles, uses Datapoint systems to support Ford dealers across Germany.
A Datapoint customer since 1976, Ford Bank and the company have made the technological evolution together. Over the years, Ford Bank has used a wide range of Datapoint equipment. Today, Datapoint 7800-series multi-processors serve as the backbone of a system that includes approximately 350 terminals and 40 personal computers.
Ford Bank's latest order is for additional equipment to handle increasing business not only in what was West Germany but also in the former East Germany. The new equipment will also enable the bank to introduce new applications, including Datapoint's VISTA-MAIL electronic mail system.
"In line with our quest for total quality excellence, we have embarked on a major upgrade of our branch office system which involves Datapoint hardware and software," said Dr. P. Forsch, chief financial officer of Ford Bank Germany. "As has been the case on prior occasions, Datapoint Germany has given us valuable assistance in the planning of this important project."
Michael Busch, managing director of Datapoint Germany, said, "We are especially delighted with this future-oriented order, and we would like to acknowledge Ford Bank's confidence in Datapoint's competence in planning, consulting and implementation of this substantial project."
Datapoint, a leader in Networking Information Technology -- information processing, personal computing, telephony services and videoconferencing -- markets its products and services in more than 40 countries worldwide as part of its Open Systems Networking strategy.
