 GERBER REALIGNS INTERNATIONAL OPERATIONS
FREMONT, Mich., April 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Gerber Products Company

(NYSE: GEB) is realigning its international operations and worldwide product sourcing to enhance the potential for growth in Europe, the Pacific Rim and the Americas.
James T. Smith, executive vice president and president, Gerber Products Division, will assume responsibility for all Gerber food and baby care operations in the Western hemisphere. Currently in charge of the U.S. and Canadian businesses, Smith adds the Gerber food and baby care businesses in Mexico, Central America and South America and the Caribbean to the scope of his operations.
According to Al Piergallini, Gerber chairman, president and chief executive officer, the consolidation of the North, Central and South American operations into a single unit will be particularly important as Gerber grows in Central and South America. "The markets of North, Central and South America are transitioning into a common market. We feel it is important to integrate our operations which serve these markets to take advantage of all the opportunities in this emerging trading region. In addition, efficiencies in sourcing as well as the integration of our Hispanic marketing programs make this realignment a good business decision."
Michael A. Cipollaro, president, International Division, will manage all other international business, primarily focusing on the development of European and Pacific Rim markets.
"Significant opportunities in Central, Eastern and Western Europe compel us to concentrate the necessary resources to grow our business in the emerging Pan-European common market. Michael's experience in this region makes him the logical choice to lead our new business endeavors in Europe and to further develop existing businesses there," added Piergallini.
In order to strengthen global product sourcing, William A. Rottman, senior vice president, product supply, Gerber Products Division, will now be responsible for all Gerber food and baby care production facilities worldwide.
"The consolidation of all production facilities should result in improved resource utilization and greater efficiencies in sourcing and logistics," said Piergallini.
