GERBER PRODUCTS COMPANY TO CONSIDER THE SALE OF BUSTER BROWN
FREMONT, Mich., July 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Gerber Products Company (NYSE: GEB) is considering the sale of its wholly owned subsidiary, Buster Brown Apparel, Inc.
According to Gerber Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Al Piergallini, "Gerber has a number of exciting opportunities, both domestically and internationally. We decided to re-deploy the capital invested in Buster Brown behind the long-term development of Gerber- branded core businesses around the world. For example, we recently acquired Alima, S.A., the largest producer of baby food and juices in Poland. Buster Brown's growth and profitability have been excellent and consistent. However, we believe that Buster Brown's strong management team can better realize the full potential of the company's branded franchises in the children's apparel business as part of another company in the apparel industry or as a stand-alone entity."
Buster Brown is a leading designer, manufacturer, and marketer of branded children's apparel. Its fiscal 1993 revenue is estimated at $160 million-$170 million. The company produces moderately priced fashion playwear, hosiery and layette, primarily for department and specialty stores as well as other selected distribution channels. Buster Brown has approximately 3,200 employees and is headquartered in Chattanooga, Tenn.
Gerber is a leading provider of food, apparel and care products for families with children from birth to age three. Gerber had worldwide sales of $1.3 billion during the fiscal year ended March 31, 1992.
Gerber retained the services of Wasserstein Perella & Company, Inc. to assist in the sale.
