GERBER ANNOUNCES FOOD DONATION TO BABIES IN LOS ANGELES AREA
FREMONT, Mich., May 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Gerber announced today it will donate 9,000 cases of baby food to the First African Methodist Episcopal Church (FAME) and the Black Women's Forum of Los Angeles for distribution to families with infants and toddlers in afflicted neighborhoods of Los Angels.
The company said it was working with the offices of Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) to speed food to families in need.
Two truckloads of food products for infants 3 months through 2 years will be made available to parents whose normal access to grocery stores has been interrupted by fires, damage and other developments resulting from acts of civil disobedience in affected areas of Los Angeles.
"As the largest supplier of baby food in America, we're glad to help out at this time of need," said Al Piergallini, Gerber's chairman and chief executive officer. "Babies get hungry, and they can't wait for things to get back to normal."
Food will be delivered Monday morning, May 11, to FAME, which will immediately distribute it to 54 local churches. Food will also be delivered on Monday to a storage facility maintained by the Black Women's Forum, an organization of 600 women dedicated to providing leadership to their community. Distribution by the Black Women's Forum will occur next week at times and locations to be determined.
The food, valued at $80,000, will consist of cereal, fruit, fruit juices, vegetables and meats. The 7,000 cases will provide nutritious food for up to 3,000 children for nearly two weeks, according to Gerber nutritionists.
