GERALD P. MURPHY, M.D., D. SC. ACCEPTS NEW POSITION AT PACIFIC NORTHWEST RESEARCH FOUNDATION

 SEATTLE, April 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, William B. Hutchinson, M.D., founding president and director of Seattle's Pacific Northwest Research Foundation, announced the appointment of Gerald P. Murphy, M.D., D. Sc. as its director and chief operations officer, effective Sept. 1.
 According to Dr. Hutchinson, Dr. Murphy, a graduate of Seattle University and the University of Washington Medical School, is an internationally recognized cancer specialist; author or co-author of over 1,000 scientific publications and 14 books covering a broad spectrum of cancer, transplantation, endocrinology and urology. Murphy is currently the chief medical officer of the American Cancer Society and secretary-general of the International Union Against Cancer, a position he has held since 1974. He also is a former director of Roswell Park Memorial Institute. He is a member of the editorial board of 17 publications and editor of seven; a member of 24 professional societies and has received honorary degrees from seven institutions as well as many other prestigious awards from various educational and philanthropic organizations.
 Hutchinson will remain in his position as president and chairman of the board of trustees and chief executive officer of Seattle's Pacific Northwest Research Foundation, the oldest private non-profit biomedical research foundation in the state of Washington.
