GERALD NEWMAN CHIEF ACCOUNTING OFFICER OF MCDONALD'S CORP., DIES AT 61
 OAK BROOK, Ill., Oct. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Gerald Newman, senior executive vice president and chief accounting officer of McDonald's Corporation (NYSE: MCD) died yesterday of a heart attack in Cleveland on his way to a fundraising event for Ronald McDonald Children's Charities.
 Newman, who was 61, was responsible for the corporation's worldwide accounting activities. He joined McDonald's in 1961 and held successive management posts becoming vice president and controller in 1970, executive vice president in 1973 and senior executive vice president and chief accounting
officer in 1980. He was appointed to the company's board of directors in 1973.
 "All of us at the McDonald's are deeply grieved over Gerry Newman's sudden death," said Michael R. Quinlan, McDonald's chairman and chief executive officer. "He was a true pioneer of our system, especially as it involved the evolution of our franchise relationships. Gerry was also one of the founders of Ronald McDonald Children's Charities and was president of RMCC. In that capacity, he helped create and lead a charitable effort that has benefited thousands of children all over the world. His passing is a great loss to the McDonald's family worldwide and we will miss him dearly."
 A resident of Highland Park, Ill., Newman us survived by his wife Bobbi, sons Jeffrey and Marc, daughters-in-law Phyllis and Lisa and grandchildren Alexandra and Marlee and his sister Eleanor Silverman.
 A graduate of Roosevelt University, Newman served on the Visiting Advisory Council of DePaul University. He was also a frequent lecturer at major business schools and was a former Trustee of Spertus College of Judaica in Chicago.
