GERALD HOGAN APPOINTED PRESIDENT AND CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER OF HOME SHOPPING NETWORK, INC.

 ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., Feb. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Roy M. Speer, chairman of the board of the Home Shopping Network (NYSE: HSN), has announced today that Gerald Hogan has been named the network's new president and chief executive officer.
 In this post, Mr. Hogan will be responsible for overseeing the operations and strategic direction of the company. The position was formerly held by Mr. Speer, who will continue to serve as chairman of the board and advisor on day-to-day activities.

 Prior to joining the Home Shopping Network, Inc., Mr. Hogan served as vice chairman of Whittle Communications L.P. and was responsible for capital strategy and general partner relations. Mr. Hogan joined Whittle in October of 1990 after a 19 year tenure at Turner Broadcasting System, Inc. (TBS) in Atlanta, where, upon leaving, he held the position of president of Turner Entertainment Networks.
 Mr. Hogan joined TBS in 1971 as an account executive. He was named local sales manager in 1972, general sales manager for TBS SuperStation in 1977, vice president of Turner Broadcasting Sales (TBSI) in 1980 and president of TBSI in 1981. Mr. Hogan began his career in advertising, working for the Leo Burnett advertising agency in Chicago.

 In accepting this new position, Mr. Hogan joins one of the most sophisticated and technologically-advanced communications systems operating today. Begun by Roy Speer and Lowell "Bud" Paxson as a radio program in 1977, the Home Shopping Network (HSN), is America's original, live, shop-at-home TV service headquartered in Tampa Bay, Fla. After tremendous local success, Mr. Speer and Mr. Paxson launched HSN on national cable television in 1985 and within five years saw the fledgling shop-at-home operation exceed $1 billion in sales for the combined HSN networks.
 Due to Home Shopping Network's popularity, a second network, HSN 2, was formed in March of 1986. A third network, SPREE, was introduced in April, 1987. The combined programming of these three operations allows the Home Shopping Network to reach two-thirds of all American television households and to broadcast 24 hours, seven days a week, with nationwide distribution via satellite.
 In December 1992, Liberty Media. Inc., a subsidiary of the nation's largest cable television operator, Tele-Communications Inc., purchased 75 percent of Home Shopping Network, considering it one of its most important investments. Peter Barton, president and chief executive of Liberty, feels the addition of Mr. Hogan only strengthens the company's portfolio.  Home Shopping Network has traded on the New York Stock Exchange since June, 1990.
 Mr. Hogan received his B.A. from St. Ambrose College in Davenport, Iowa in 1968. He will reside in the Tampa Bay area with his wife Cathy.
