 GEORGIA-PACIFIC TAKES TEMPORARY DOWN TIME
 AT TWO COMMUNICATION PAPERS MILLS
ATLANTA, July 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Georgia-Pacific Corp. (NYSE: GP) today said that due to current market conditions and excess supply, the company will curtail production of communication papers at two mills.
At its Ashdown, Ark., paper mill, the company temporarily will shut down the Number 61 machine and lay off about 75 employees for three weeks beginning August 2. Start up of the machine is scheduled for August 23.
The company's Woodland, Maine, paper mill temporarily shut down its communication papers machine on July 3. At that time, 40 employees were laid off for the duration of the down time. Woodland's paper machine is scheduled to resume operation for a nine-day period starting August 3, which then will be followed by continued down time effective August 12, to the end of the month.
"These curtailments are temporary but necessary to get our high level of inventory, due to the industry's over capacity, back in line with demand," said James E. Bostic Jr., group vice president - communication papers.
