GEORGIA-PACIFIC EMPLOYEES SEND AID TO HURRICANE VICTIMS
ATLANTA, Aug. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- Georgia-Pacific Corp. Atlanta headquarters employees today sent two 48-foot tractor-trailer trucks containing donated food items to victims of Hurricane Andrew in South Florida and in south Louisiana.
About 1,200 boxes (approximately 48,000 pounds) of canned goods, bottled water, baby food and other supplies were donated.
On its way to South Florida, one truck will stop at Georgia- Pacific's Brunswick, Ga., pulp and paperboard mill where it will collect approximately 300 more boxes of food as well as take on 250 cases of tissue products donated by Georgia-Pacific's Palatka, Fla., tissue mill. Employees from the Brunswick mill will accompany the truck to South Florida to help distribute the supplies.
The truck headed for Louisiana is stopping at Georgia-Pacific pulp and paper mills at New Augusta and Monticello, Miss., where it will pick up approximately 200 boxes of supplies from each mill. The truck will take on more than 250 boxes of items from the company's Port Hudson, La., pulp and paper mill where it will be joined by a truck with at least 200 food boxes from Georgia-Pacific's Crossett, Ark., operations and 100 boxes from the company's corrugated packaging plant in West Monroe, La., as well as donated items from Georgia-Pacific's Ashdown, Ark., pulp and paper mill.
Employees from Port Hudson and Crossett will help distribute the supplies in hurricane-affected areas in south Louisiana.
