GEORGIA-PACIFIC ANNOUNCES NEW DIRECTOR, EXECUTIVE RETIREMENTS
AND NEW ASSIGNMENTS; BOARD DECLARES DIVIDEND
ATLANTA, July 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Georgia-Pacific Corp.'s (NYSE: GP) board of directors today announced that David R. Goode, president of Norfolk Southern Corp., was elected a member of the company's board.
He succeeds Ronald P. Hogan, Georgia-Pacific's vice chairman, who retired today as a member of the board. Goode, who has been named Norfolk Southern's chairman and chief executive officer effective Sept. 1, 1992, joined that company in 1965.
In anticipation of the retirement of Daniel A. Martinez, senior vice president - pulp and bleached board, who will be 65 and retire effective Nov. 1, the board elected Clint M. Kennedy, previously vice president - sales and marketing, pulp and bleached board, to succeed Martinez. Kennedy, named group vice president - pulp and bleached board, will continue to report to Martinez until his retirement and then will report to W.E. Babin, executive vice president - pulp and paperboard. In addition to manufacturing responsibilities, he will continue his responsibilities for sales and marketing of pulp and bleached board.
Martinez joined Georgia-Pacific in 1979 when the company acquired Hudson Pulp and Paper Corp. "Danny has exemplified dedication and service, both to the industry and Georgia-Pacific," said T. Marshall Hahn Jr., chairman and chief executive officer. "His leadership and expertise in the pulp and paper industry will be missed."
The company's board of directors also declared a regular quarterly dividend on common stock of 40 cents per share, payable Sept. 8 to shareholders of record Aug. 14.
In other action, the company reported that Michael B. Wilson, 55, vice president - sales and marketing, consumer and commercial paper products, has elected to retire.
Wilson, who began his career with Georgia-Pacific in 1972 as a division manager in consumer paper products sales, has elected to retire effective Sept. 1.
"Mike has been a valued contributor to the success of Georgia- Pacific's tissue products business. He has championed customer partnerships and used his many skills to build a strong market presence for Georgia-Pacific in tissue products," Hahn said.
