GEORGIA-PACIFIC AND UNIONS REACH FOUR-YEAR AGREEMENT

 ATLANTA, Aug. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Georgia-Pacific Corp. (NYSE: GP) was notified today by the International Woodworkers of America (IWA) and the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners (UBCJ) that the union members have voted to ratify a new, four-year collective bargaining agreement with the company.
 The agreement covers Georgia-Pacific operations at six plywood plants, two studmills and a particleboard plant in Mississippi and Arkansas. Approximately 2,500 Georgia-Pacific employees are covered by this contract.
 "This contract will help keep these plants competitive, which will benefit the company and its employees," said Donald L. Glass, senior vice president - building products manufacturing and sales. "A four- year agreement also will enable us to ensure a stable supply of quality Georgia-Pacific products to our customers." The unions voted to ratify the company's proposal made July 23. The four-year agreement will expire June 1, 1997. The contract includes annual wage increases, improved pensions, an increase in weekly accident and sickness benefits, and improved life insurance. Employees also will have an improved dental plan and one additional paid holiday.
 Georgia-Pacific is one of the world's leading manufacturers and distributors of pulp, paper and building products, and employs about 52,000 people at approximately 500 facilities. The company manages more than six million acres of timberlands in the United States and Canada.
