GEORGIA POWER ANNOUNCES 1993 EARNINGS

 ATLANTA, Jan. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Georgia Power Co.'s net income for the 12 months ended Dec. 31, 1993, after dividends on preferred stock was $569.9 million, an increase of approximately $49 million over 1992 earnings.
 The company attributed the increase primarily to higher retail revenues. Also during the period, the company had an after-tax gain of approximately $18 million on the second in a series of four transactions to sell Unit 4 of Plant Scherer.
 Retail sales were 6.1 percent higher in 1993 than in 1992, increasing from 55.6 billion kilowatt-hours to 59.0 billion kilowatt- hours. Meanwhile, Georgia Power reported the addition of 25,624 customers during 1993, an increase of 1.6 percent over the previous year.
