GEORGIA GULF TO EXPAND VINYL OPERATIONS
ATLANTA, Sept. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Georgia Gulf Corp. (NYSE: GGC)

has announced plans to expand capacity at its Plaquemine, LA vinyl resin plant by 240 million lbs. at an estimated cost of $55 million.
The disclosure followed a board of directors meeting held today in Atlanta.
The company said required permits are currently in place and construction will commence immediately. Completion of the project is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 1994, and this expansion, along with other improvements, will bring Georgia Gulf's effective available capacity to 1.08 billion lbs. Also, the company said the addition will further improve the overall efficiency and cost structure of its vinyl operations.
"Strategically, this vinyl resin expansion is a very important move and commitment for Georgia Gulf," said Edwin S. Schiffer, vice president - polymer group. "As the economy recovers, demand for these products will increase, and this new capacity will help meet the requirement for growing merchant vinyl resin sales as well as support the continued growth of the company's vinyl compound business."
Georgia Gulf, headquartered in Atlanta and listed on the NYSE (GGC), is a major manufacturer of several highly integrated lines of commodity chemicals and vinyl polymers including aromatic, natural gas and electrochemical products.
