GEORGIA BAPTIST HEALTHCARE SYSTEM PURCHASES LAKESIDE COMMUNITY HOSPITAL

ATLANTA, Jan. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- On Dec. 3, 1992, the Georgia Baptist Healthcare System purchased the Lakeside Community Hospital in Cumming, Ga.
The hospital is now named Baptist North and operates in association with Georgia Baptist Medical Center and its affiliates.
Under new ownership this 36-bed facility will be a full-service community hospital. A fully staffed emergency room, a radiology department, operating capability and general acute care capabilities are part of the services.
Georgia Baptist's Life Flight, north Georgia's only hospital-based helicopter ambulance service, will be servicing Baptist North. Also, Georgia Baptist's highly acclaimed residency program in affiliation with Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, will be extended to the Cumming hospital. This will give added care for patients not ordinarily anticipated.
In the asset acquisition from Hallmark Healthcare, Georgia Baptist received a 44-bed certificate-of-need for a replacement facility which Georgia Baptist plans to build within the next two years. The location for the new facility will be even more accessible than the present location.
John Herron, administrator of Baptist North, stated: "This location has been highly coveted by north Fulton County hospitals and Georgia Baptist is delighted to be serving this community. It is our desire to maintain a community hospital with the advantage of giving large metropolitan hospital quality to our patients."
Herron has been aggressively working with community doctors and has experienced excellent response with a great deal of physician interest expressed. The hospital presently employs a staff of only 15. Under full operation it will employ approximately 110 employees.
Baptist North is located at 133 Samaritan Drive, Cumming, Ga. 30130.
