GEORGE W. WATSON JOINS TRANSCANADA PIPELINES BOARD

CALGARY, Alberta, Aug. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- The board of directors of TransCanada PipeLines today announced the appointment of George W. Watson to the board.
Watson was appointed president of the company in April. Watson joined TransCanada PipeLines in July 1990 as chief financial officer. Watson will fill a vacancy on the board created by the retirement of Gordon P. Osler as a director of the company.
Osler is stepping down after serving 39 years as a member of the TransCanada board of directors. He was first appointed to the board in 1954 and is by far the longest serving member. Osler served as chairman of the board from 1984 to 1989.
Osler began his relationship with TransCanada PipeLines several years before the first pipe was laid in the ground. He has been an integral part of the company through parts of five decades and has seen the company grow into a world leader in natural gas transportation.
"The shareholders of this company owe a great deal to Osler for his guidance and wisdom over these many years," said Gerry Maier, TransCanada's chairman and chief executive officer. "His contribution to the growth of the company has been outstanding and is greatly appreciated. He will be missed."
