GEORGE GORDON NAMED CEO AT DATAMATICS, INC.
WYNCOTE, Pa., Sept. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- George M. Gordon has been

named chief executive officer at Datamatics, Inc., a computer software firm specializing in electronic data interchange services for companies bidding on government contracts.
Gordon had been chairman of SPD Technologies, a Philadelphia-based manufacturer of circuit breakers and other military electronics.
Francis M. Walsh, Datamatics' founder, said the move was a key element in a major expansion of the company's services to coincide with U.S. Department of Defense plans to implement electronic bidding, invoicing and contract payments.
"George Gordon's extensive background as a supplier to the government and as a seasoned corporate executive makes him an ideal selection to direct our company at a pivotal point in our history," Walsh said.
Walsh noted that Datamatics has formed a partnership with IBM Information Network to provide swift and efficient electronic access for companies bidding on government contracts.
Datamatics has developed a comprehensive online database of procurement and bidding information on Department of Defense contracts over the past 15 years. It is the most extensive library of government- contract information available.
Companies subscribing to the Datamatics information service automatically receive government requests for quotations in the categories of their choice. The information is conveyed from the Datamatics database through the IBM Information Network, which is available throughout the United States and in 90 countries worldwide.
The federal government has indicated that all Department of Defense procurement will ultimately be done electronically. The department's annual purchases are in excess of $40 billion and involve more than 11 million separate contracts with an estimated 500,000 suppliers.
Gordon is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and served 10 years as an officer in the U.S. Navy. He had headed SPD Technologies since it became an independent company in 1987 following a management buyout from Gould Inc.
