GEORGE A. HELLAND JOINS DRESSER INDUSTRIES, INC.
DALLAS, March 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Dresser Industries, Inc. (NYSE: DI) President and Chief Operating Officer William E. Bradford announced today the appointment of George A. Helland, P.E., as a vice president of the company. In his new role, Mr. Helland will be responsible for coordinating the activities for Dresser's operating divisions in the former republics of the Soviet Union. Mr. Helland assumed his duties on March 15, 1993. According to Mr. Bradford, "With nearly 60 years experience in the Soviet Union and its successor states, at Dresser we believe it will be extremely important to focus and coordinate our future business initiatives. We are very pleased that George Helland will be joining Dresser to spearhead that effort. Mr. Helland's background is ideally suited for his new position. While with the Department of Energy, Mr. Helland's department worked with the republics of the former Soviet Union in their relationships with United States companies. He has also compiled a considerable record of achievement with oil and gas service businesses in the United States and overseas." Mr. Helland served most recently as deputy assistant secretary of energy for export assistance in the Bush Administration. During his time at the Department of Energy, his office provided assistance to U.S. exporters of energy goods, services and technologies. Prior to joining the government, Mr. Helland was a general management consultant working primarily with manufacturing and oil service companies operating worldwide. Mr. Helland has been president and chief executive of SII McEvoy, a division of Smith International, Inc., president and chief executive officer of Weatherford International, Inc., an oilfield equipment and service company, and his early career was spent at the Cameron Iron Works, Inc., a Houston-based manufacturer of specialty forgings, pipeline ball valves and oilfield equipment where he was executive vice president, responsible for all of the company's operations. Mr. Helland received his Masters of Business Administration from Harvard University and a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Texas.
