CLEVELAND, Oct. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- As part of an ongoing program to reduce organizational layers and to streamline its decision-making process, The Geon Company (NYSE: GON) announced today that it will reduce the number of executive positions reporting to the chief executive officer from eight to five.
As a result of this reorganization, Michael J. Mudler, senior vice president, finance; Harold T. Evans, vice president, human resources; and Michael M. Marshall, vice president, safety, health and environmental, will leave the company, effective at the end of this year. Responsibilities of the three will be shifted to others within the organization.
"Mr. Mudler, Mr. Evans and Mr. Marshall all made major contributions to building this company over many years, and were instrumental in the successful formation of Geon as a separate public company," said Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and President William F. Patient.
"Our ongoing mission is to be the benchmark company in the polymers industry," Patient added. "To be world-class, we need to work continually to take layers out of the organization and to simplify the decision-making process."
Thomas A. Waltermire, senior vice president and treasurer, will take over the responsibilities for the entire financial and information system functions, as well as human resources. Safety, health and environmental responsibilities will shift to Edward C. Martinelli, senior vice president, operations.
"This reorganization reflects the fact that Geon is becoming a more focused and more efficient company today," Patient said. "Our sales of vinyl resins and compounds have never been greater, and we're achieving this growth with one-third fewer people than just a few years ago."
The Geon Company is a leading North American producer of vinyl plastics resins and compounds, which are used in a wide variety of applications, including household appliances, business machines and construction products. It is a former division of The BFGoodrich Company.
